Llamas and Garden (Flying) Gnomes

Our next gig was in Levin, not very far north from Wellington. We stayed with Cheryl and Bruce at the Cherry Pie Quilt Patch shop and retreat.  What a great setup they have there! It is about 5 minutes outside of town, and they have sheep, cows, a couple of goats and next door there are llamas!

The Cherry Pie Quilt Patch specializes in supplies for crazy quilters, and they have lots of ribbons and beads and charms and fun fabrics.  The house is set up to handle 11 quilters sleeping overnight, and it looks like a great place for a retreat.  I gave Cheryl one of my fabric boxes, and it fit right in to her Christmas decorations.

Bruce is a crafty person himself (as well as an excellent cook of paua fritters!), but he works with fabric a little more durable than cotton.  He has made a number of very charming garden animals out of rebar – reinforced steel!  He welds them together, so they will last for a long time.  I am bringing one home with me for my garden – how could I resist?
