Aliens

HG Wells lived in Woking, Surrey during the time he wrote “War of the Worlds”.  Woking is fairly near London, and is famous for being the place Victorians sent their dead.   When they ran out of room in the cemeteries in London, they would put the bodies on a train to Woking.  Not an illustrious history.  Perhaps it affected HG’s writing.

The town fathers have honoured the legacy of HG Wells by naming their conference centre after him.  They have also commissioned an artist to make “aliens” which are judiciously placed throughout the downtown area.  Here’s one of them:

People don’t seem to be too fussed about it, but perhaps it’s a different story when the pubs close!
